Black & White Bathroom

I’d never decorated with black before, but the existing classic black and white floor tiles and white cabinets of this two-room bathroom inspired me to think in monochrome.

The exterior room houses the sinks and the interior has the toilet and bathtub. In the exterior sink room, I boldly applied black paint to the walls in a semi-gloss finish that created enough reflection to keep the room feeling bright. The black walls contrasted with the white trim for a sharp and classic look. I also installed a light bar for make-up application. I applied strips of Greek key design border tiles to the two existing wall mirrors using E600 glue. To complement the symmetry of the sinks and mirrors, I hung two urn prints. One print hangs on the left wall and the other on the medicine cabinet door, with the help of some 3M Velcro strips.

In the interior room, the Greek key element carries over to the shower curtain that I made by sewing decorative trim onto a white duck cloth curtain. I decided to contrast the geometric pattern with the dramatic impact of a large print floral wallpaper. To keep the floral design from overwhelming the small space, I had white wainscoting installed to the bottom half of the room. The wainscoting matched other wood trim throughout the house and provided a practical surface for cleaning the walls around the toilet.

Overall, I love the impact of limiting the color palette to black and white and contrasting geometric and floral designs.
