Welcome to Grandeur on Grove:
An interior design outlet of Founder and Creative Director, Kristi Gundrum Kebinger.
In the summer of 2017, we bought an 111-year-old home in Oak Park, IL. I spent three years on a journey through traditional home design. I’ve loved the process so much, I’ve decided to transition to a career in interior decorating and design.
This site is a tool to:
• showcase my decorating work
• share my design inspirations
• undertake DIY projects
• foster a love of color, patterns, and creativity, and
• explore what role traditional design elements can play in contemporary home decorating.
My favorite areas of interior design are textiles, colors, patterns, upholstery, wall coverings, and antique wood furnishings. You’ll see those areas highlighted in my projects.
During my journey, I noticed a gap in information about who is using the traditional design style today and how. To gain knowledge, I’ve mostly relied on magazines, books, visits to European castles, mansions, other glorious estate homes, and trips to antique stores. I yearned to find a website (tell me if you’re out there) where someone talked about how they were decorating their current house in a traditional style. Since I’m learning about traditional design as I go, I wanted to provide some content to help those with a similar mission of appreciating, preserving, and utilizing antiques furnishings and prints in their home in ways that won’t make them feel like they are living in a historical museum.
And so, I hope to offer a bit of grandeur for your decorating consideration.
More introduction to this site is in the Welcome article and in this article from the Wednesday Journal of Oak Park and River Forest.
