This guest bedroom is inspired by French décor. It has flowing, embroidered sheer curtains, a cane-backed bench, a white metal bed frame, two French nightstands, subtle green and pink colors, rose print fabrics, and scrolling mirrors, sconces, and painting frames. Being in this room is very calming and welcoming for guests. Soft white touches such as the white trim and radiator brighten the room. The light streaming through the sheer curtains reflects in two mirrors and off the pearl finish of the modern West Elm chandelier.
Antiques abound in this room. They include a three-panel screen rescued from the dumpster and reupholstered in a rose print, a scroll top dresser and mirror, French nightstands with salmony-pink marble, two pieces of rose-themed needlepoint wall art, and matching wooden sconces. I’ve snuck some dearly treasured English green Wedgwood Jasperware into this French room. They are the collection of my husband’s late, English grandmother.
Beyond the antiques, I’ve furnished the room with several DIY projects and bargain finds. I painted the mirror frame off white, sewed the rose quilt, and painted the onion oil painting. The dresser tapestry was a flea market find and the corner chair was found at Goodwill and reupholstered in silk and velvet . The bed frame is from Target and the bedside lamps are from Home Depot.
I’ve rounded out the traditionally decorated rose-filled room with symmetry around the bed frame, a cozy, soft Pottery Barn textured throw blanket, and a tapestry pillow purchased at a château in France.
