A series of tandem rooms make for a guest/office space primarily used by my work-from-home husband. His favorite decorative color is lime green, so the challenge was to bring vivid colors to a light-filled workspace while maintaining cohesiveness with the house’s traditional scheme. The outer room has a traditional style, and the inner office is more modern, but they complement each other.
The outer guest room is papered in a leaf print and hosts a caned daybed with trundle for guests (and lounging dog co-workers). A linen storage closet boasts original closet doors and hinges. Other antiques include a cedar chest serving as a coffee table and side table that holds a stained-glass lamp. The lamp, along with the room’s bright orange and red floral paintings and ceramics, provides pops of color. The texture of the natural fiber window treatments paired with a natural fiber rug compliment the leaf pattern and give an organic feel.
The inner office room is a former screened-in porch with a low sloping ceiling, but lots of windows and light. I used the leaf wallpaper again to cover the big white closet doors and to coordinate with the outer room. The walls got bright green paint and modern artwork in red, orange, pinks and greens. Large plants added a vaguely tropical vibe, and the comfortable oversized orange leather chair provides space for reading and video gaming.
